Brief 3 - PDF Page Titles

Now that we have the idea pinned down, and how the titles for the pages should follow design wise, we then got on to producing others. They are time consuming to do so really want to knuckle down and get them done. Before getting on though, we typed out the next few titles for the green section to see how they fit and if they look alright because if they don't then it's definitely worth knowing now rather than later.

Welcome message title works fine.

Programme overview & content doesn't though. The top line is far too long.

We tried ways of splitting it over multiple lines but it just doesn't really work. Hmm. We then discussed the possibility of having them split over two dps's, seen as page numbers aren't included for these parts of the contents pages so it isn't so necessary to stick to them as such. We wondered about having sort of like C:1 and C:2 for the section element.

We're both not so keen on doing this as it just doesn't really work from a design point of view. Damn. Moving on from this for now to the class of 2013 title page. Now this is an awkward one too because there isn't actually any body copy or anything to accompany this on this layout and we think it will just look a bit daft having it on the left and nothing on the right.

We tried making the whole thing bigger but just not sure about it. Hmm! We're happy with how the welcome message title worked out though, so decided to work on getting the information on the right side of the page sorted out.

We kept the text within the area of where the information is on the students pages, and we think this works quite nicely. It does feel a little squeezed in though. This is fine for now though, so we moved on to getting the text for the programme overview page sorted next.

Still need to get the title for this sorted. There's a lot less text for this section so it allows for more white space above and below the text - need to keep some consistency throughout the PDF between the information pages though.

We made some alterations to the welcome message spread so that Steves name is at the top - this then will allow us to keep the top of the body copy for each page to start at the same place across each of the information pages.

With this in mind then, we got the idea to include the list of students again on the right side of the page for the class of 2013 page. The idea is to have the PDF interactive, so the page numbers could be linked to each individual students incase someone viewing the PDF is wanting to jump straight to someone in particular. We decided to experiment with lines for this to connect the names to where it says class of 2013.

We're both pleased with how this has developed on and think it works well.
